Beam damage detection by deflection influence lines

Ivana Štimac, Ivica Kožar, Ante Mihanović

Abstract

The beam damage detection method relying on the analysis of deflection influence lines is presented. The method is based on the difference in curvature of deflection influence lines for the undamaged and damaged states of the structure. The simplicity of the method is mostly evidenced by the fact that a small number of measuring points is required. Thus one measuring point in the centre of each span is sufficient for reliable determination of the final number of damage points. Theoretical assumptions have been confirmed by on-site investigations.
